This is my new favorite yarn. Its superfine Merino wool, two ply. Its a whopping 192 yards and 9.6 ounces!! Spun on my Louet s51. I wanted to keep it to snuggle, but decided to add it to the inventory so it will go have a life and its own adventure in the world.
Yesterday I made 7 new flower brooches, and there will be more to come. I am playing with various techniques, so some are crocheted and some needle felted (top right) and many with sequins, beads and stamen stitched onto the centers. Most everything is hand spun yarn with a tiny bit of cotton (bottom right flower is black silk/merino handspun edged in cotton)
I use a premade felt sheet and cut circles for backing using a large circle punch, 2.5 or 3” diameter depending on flower size. I punch two 1/4 in holes in felt circle for pin back and place the ends of pin back through the holes, this locks it in place behind the felt. I attach everything with E600 and clamp them while they dry. It is a little bit labor intensive but I love the result!
